Pay PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and the housing levy

What each statutory body is owed for a payroll month, paid through Treasury and tracked until settled.

Steps

  1. Go to Payroll โ†’ Remittances & returns. Each month with an approved run lists PAYE (KRA), NSSF, SHIF (SHA), the housing levy (KRA), pension and other statutory deductions: owed (employee and employer shares), paid and outstanding, with the due date.
  2. Click Pay on a line: the amount (all or part of what is outstanding), the money account, the date and the reference (e.g. the KRA payment registration number).
  3. It is paid through Treasury (Dr the payable / Cr the money account). A line shows Settled when nothing is outstanding.

Good to know

  • You can't pay more than is outstanding. Payables in the ledger shows each payable account's balance - it should equal what is outstanding across all months.
  • The due day (Kenya: the 9th of the following month) is set in Payroll โ†’ Setup; past it, an unpaid line shows overdue.
